Responsibilities: Key Responsibilities
- Perform polishing, stoning, buffing, lapping, diamond polishing, and mirror-finishing of mould cavities, cores, inserts, sliders, lifters, and other mould components.
- Achieve the required mould surface finish in accordance with customer specifications, engineering drawings, SPI (Society of the Plastics Industry) standards, and internal quality requirements.
- Remove machining marks, scratches, corrosion, weld marks, and other surface imperfections to restore mould quality.
- Prepare mould surfaces for texturing, coating, laser engraving, plating, or other secondary finishing processes where required.
- Inspect mould surfaces using appropriate measuring instruments and visual inspection techniques to ensure compliance with finishing specifications.
- Assist in mould repair, refurbishment, modification, and preventive maintenance activities.
- Maintain polishing tools, equipment, abrasives, and consumables in good working condition and report any defects or shortages.
- Follow approved polishing methods, work instructions, quality standards, and safety procedures at all times.
- Maintain proper housekeeping (5S) within the Tool Room and ensure work areas are clean, organised, and safe.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve polishing quality, efficiency, and mould performance.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Tool Room Supervisor or Management.

Qualification / Knowledge / Skill Requirements
- Secondary School Certificate, Technical Certificate, Vocational Certificate, or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in mould polishing, tool room operations, precision tooling, or plastic injection moulding is preferred.
- Experience in polishing high-gloss, cosmetic, optical, or precision moulds will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge of mould structures, polishing techniques, SPI surface finish standards, and mould maintenance practices.
- Skilled in using polishing equipment, hand tools, abrasive stones, diamond compounds, buffing wheels, and measuring instruments.
- Able to read basic engineering drawings and understand surface finish specifications.
- Good manual dexterity, attention to detail, and strong visual inspection skills.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
- Willing to work overtime or shift schedules when required to support production.

Authority
- Stop work and immediately report any mould condition that may result in quality defects, equipment damage, or safety risks.
- Reject mould surfaces that do not comply with approved surface finish specifications or quality standards.
- Recommend mould repair, refurbishment, or corrective actions to the Tool Room Supervisor.
- Request replacement of worn polishing tools, abrasives, consumables, or defective equipment necessary to perform work effectively.
- Escalate mould abnormalities, excessive wear, damage, or quality concerns to the Tool Room Supervisor for further evaluation.
- Participate in preventive maintenance planning and continuous improvement activities related to mould finishing and polishing processes.

Working Conditions
- Work primarily in the Tool Room and manufacturing environment.
- Frequent use of polishing machines, hand tools, abrasive materials, precision measuring instruments, and inspection equipment.
- Exposure to machine noise, dust, lubricants, polishing compounds, cleaning chemicals, and metal particles.
- Requires prolonged standing, repetitive hand movements, fine motor skills, and close visual inspection.
- May be required to work overtime, weekends, public holidays, or rotating shifts to support production and urgent tooling requirements.
- Mandatory use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, safety shoes, hearing protection, and other PPE as required.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- On-time completion of mould polishing and maintenance activities.
- Mould surface finish acceptance rate (First Pass Yield).
- Number of mould-related cosmetic defects attributable to polishing quality.
- Rework rate due to polishing defects.
- Compliance with preventive maintenance schedules.
- Tool Room 5S and housekeeping audit score.
- Safety compliance and zero lost-time incidents.
- Reduction in mould downtime attributable to polishing-related issues.
- Compliance with internal quality, customer, and ISO audit requirements.
- Productivity achieved against planned polishing schedules.
- Proper care and utilisation of polishing tools and equipment.
- Continuous improvement participation and implementation of process improvement initiatives.
